I teach in a small k-12 school and would like to experiment with video on a green screen. Is there an inexpensive way of doing this? I tried using colored paper, big mistake, too much reflection off of it. What kind of fabric, that's easy to get and cheap, works well? Thanks.

See if you can find a bright green bedsheet & tack it up somewhere (but make it tight & flat as possible!) OR you can do what a filmmaker friend of mine did....

He bought bright paint that matches the green that would be used on a green screen & painted a giant [sanded smooth] plywood board with it. It worked pretty good! Just gotta watch out for shadows & stuff cause they show up even when you insert video.

If you're decided on fabric -- don't use felt. It's nap will make a poor background, and the shades from the nap will show.

Any tight weave fabric (jersey especially) will make a good backdrop. Tight weave ***not gabardine*** polyester is great, and it doesn't wrinkle.

If the color can't be found, get a natural fabric and just get a pack of fabric dye (quite inexpensive) and dye it to the hue that works best (a disposable tub or even a 5 gallon bucket and gloves will do that job -- teach kids about clothes dyeing, too). ;)

Perhaps using a matt paint on some plywood. If your wanting fabric you'd need something that absorbs light. Like velvet or something. I've never tried to build a green screen before, but I wish you luck in your pursuits.
