The previous answer was correct but I want to point out that North Carolina gets the occasional hurricane. Also, the summers are VERY hot and humid throughout most of the state. If you're not used to this level of humidity, it will be quite a shock.

North Carolina Weather Year Round

I live in North Carolina, near Raleigh. The state is over 400 miles wide so the temperature varies a lot. In the mountains there is quite a bit of snow. In the middle of the state we have very little and on the coast next to none. During the winter the nights (except in the mountains) rarely get below 20. During the winter days it averages about 55, with some really warm 70+ degrees from time to time. During the summer it gets hot, 90+ degrees and it's humid or as you said stuffy. At the coast there usually is a breeze so it's not as hot. In the mountains they have a few hot days but it stays 10-20 degrees cooler. I hope that tells you enough about the weather in beautiful North Carolina!
