Will taking voice lessons even help? Can you get to the top? Or, do you just have to be born with the talent?

if I recall Jon Anderson of Yes took voice lessons way back when, and his voice is beautiful, so they must have worked.

some suggestions:

my ex-wife was an opera singer, and she taught me to lay flat on my back with a book on my chest, relax and watch the book rise and fall and let the breath flow rhythmically and deep, slowly. be at peace, tranquil. let the breath breathe you. then when you get that down pat, mix it up some. begin to breath in rhythm~ in count four, hold for four, exhale for four, hold for four, etc.

also try sitting cross-legged, back straight, or in a chair, with your spine straight and body and mind at ease. breathe naturally in the rhythm i mentioned (fours)~ you can count four seconds or whatever, just keep the rhythm equal, and let the breath flow itself. there will come a point when (as the Buddhists say) you are being breathed by the breath. it feels great, is healthy and great meditation too, good for body and mind. you can also vary the rhythm as it suits you, try sixes or eights, improvise.

i would also recommend exercises such as stretching, swimming, and yoga.

have fun, when you find your natural voice you will realize it was there all along.

peace and joy, Dave De-Hart.

born/work hard

talent will only get you so far because
when you think you can sing , you suddenly realize everyone else can sing to.
It's extreemly hard work and connections.

Christina Aguilera (sp?)
Rob Thomas
Mariah Carey and

anyone else who can basically sing has taken lessons. Usually for about 5-8 years ( almost all thier lives). You can be a good singer in about a year or so. But the ones at the top ,you will find, have been singing since they were in training pants!!!

I believe its a real combination of talent, real work ethic and
alot of risk taking. Think of people like Rihanna, she's from the bahamas and its taken alot of work for her to be where she is now!!! And years!

To be quite useful at present: sell your soul to a checklist label, and be waiting to hearken to your autotuned voice come out of the audio device each and every time you initiate your vehicle. OR Be an indie band, do no longer sell your soul, be particularly merely precise, do no longer substitute into the "next great ingredient", receive a cult status, make a first rate living, and have danger at happiness at life on a similar time as doing what you like.

You have to start with talent. Voice lessons are a tool to help strengthen your gift. I know that Celine Dion takes voice lessons.

Linda Ronstadt famously took lessons for many years to learn to sing opera. If you're not familiar with her name, she had a string of pop/rock hits from the late 1960s to around 1990 or so. She's still popular on the concert circuit.

Some wonderful singers have been referenced already, but I've got to add one of my all time favorites. Both with Queensryche & as a solo artist. Geoff Tate is wonderfully trained & with a four octave vocal range that's both magical & haunting.

Although it's not all in English, I often visit:

I also frequent:

& to get to Geoff's part:

For a fantastic interview that he gave in 2002:
I can't get the link to work, but if you go to his home site (the 1st link) Click on news & then go to the date, you'll be able to read it.

Okay. As you can tell, I might be a little obsessed. LOL
