I have a few sweaters, fleece, cotton and wool, that pilled. The worst is a yellow fleece one that I must have washed with a dark sweater b/c the pilling is dark! It looks horrible, how do i get it off?

You need a fabric shaver. Here are some examples:

It's tempting to get a big one, but in my experience, the small ones work better. You get best results if you hold your hand under the area you are shaving, and shave the fabric against the palm of your hand. This way the fabric stays smooth and you can press right up against the pills. You really can't hurt the fabric with one of these things, because the holes are too small to let it grab anything but the pills.

It takes a while, but it sure beats buying a new fleecie!

There is a great product on the market called a sweater shaver (I believe). It is a small handheld battery-operated machine that removes the pilling from just about anything. I had one once and used it so much it wore the little motor right out. I loved it! I must say that now you brought up this question, I may have to go buy another. I think any store like Bed, Bath & Beyond or Linens & Things would have one.

Shaving the pills is your best option at this point. Disposable Bic twin-blade razors do a fine job and there's little risk of damaging the material.

Better quality garments are less likely to pill. It's important to note that "more expensive" doesn't always mean "better quality"; it's more about the material content, thread-count, and "hand". In this context, "hand" basically means the way the material feels and wears.

Hope that helps!

Sheep are not killed for their wool! They are killed for meat just like any other livestock. The wool is a byproduct that is useful. it's not the prime reason sheep are raised. If the sheep is killed for meat, they can remove the whole skin including the wool and use it for a variety of products but it's no longer just 'wool'. Wool is shorn yearly or twice a year from sheep and the sheep grow it back.

You can buy a sweater shaver. They run on batteries and there' s different sizes. It might also be called a fabric shaver. I got mine at Wal Mart.

Do you have a sweater shaver? I use that. You may be able to use a man's electric razor.

you can purchase one of those little machines that do it - or use a razor carefully, shave your sweater - keep some packing tape around to pick up the shavings fast.

If you are talking about the lint balls that form, take a sharp knife and use the sharp edge to scrape them off. sweep them to the bottom of the piece of clothing and take duct tape to remove it.

I do it all of the time.
