They're hooked in properly any everything, but my computer isn't seeing them. It says no device available when I go to sound under control panel.

It sound like a problem with your sound card. You need to make sure the drivers for the sound card are installed correctly. The other problem may be that the sound card in your case is loose. You can check it by opening up your computer case and pushing the sound card down and checking the screw to see if it's in place. Even if you've never done it before, it should be pretty easy to do. Just make sure it doesn't void the warranty if you open the case. Good luck.

Make sure the volume is on and the speakers aren't muted. (go to sound options in the control panel) If that doesn't work Install an updated driver for the speakers and soundcard.

several points to ponder. is your volume control somehow set to mute? are they battery driven? are all the connections everywhere in ok? can you hear with headphones at all? eliminate the obvious then you might zero in on it too!
