I asked this question yesterday and it was resolved by a staffing manager of a staffing agency, but I need more info. I have 6 months of clerical experience working at the Federal reserve Bank and I like to know why some of the agencies are telling me to go out and interview and find my future position myself. Any ideas?

I understand your situation. What kind of job are you looking for? Yes, you can find a clerical job with six months of work experience. The agencies may be telling you to interview elsewhere because.. 1) all the clerical jobs need one year or more of experience 2) they don't have a good enough job database 3) there are few clerical jobs that are open in your area

I used the temporary and staffing agencies when I just graduated. I got two assignments. One was only a week through a staffing agency for data entry. The other lasted about five months. The thing is...the second job was not through a staffing agency. It was an staffing firm who saw my resume on Monster.com and contacted me for an interview even though I did not apply!

So, I would suggest that you create an organized resume..use your local community college career center or library for resume advice..or even the internet gives tips. Then post it on the major online job boards like monster.com, hotjobs.com, and others. Even though you have only 6 months of job experience, you can add your skills, awards, and volunteer/extracurricular experience that will fill out your resume. You may be contacted like I was.

Also, I would suggest you take a look at craigslist.org. I have gotten interviews from there and had better success since it is regional. Good luck.

Six months is not a long work-history, the staffing agencies probably don't have jobs for someone with limited work experience. Send your resume to the banks in your city.
