They are burial mounds left behind by the people of Caral. They are about 4700 years old.

The mounds of Caral are ancient pyramids attributed to one of the oldest civilizations in the world dating to about 3000 BC to 1600 BC.

More importantly the findings at the mounds suggest these people had a writing system and an appreciation for music.

It is also suggested that the Caral people are the origins to the better known Incas.
