They may be making deals for lesser sentences by having their guilt publicized, maybe as a "civic duty". Besides, most of these "pervs" are engaging in pedophilia and cities in which they reside are allowed to give out their name, picture and address to any residents in the area. Showing up on TV just like the criminals in COPS and such, maybe they make a little money to pay for court costs.

Technically if the offender has already done his/her time then yes. The reason the different municipalities can do it is because by Unuited States Supreme Court decision it is supposed to serve a public safety issue. However dateline is NOT a law enforcement agency and so the public safety concern unless they are attempting to catch a perp is kind of iffy. However-- if the perp is on the run they definately have a right and if they are still on probation/ parolew it gets kinda iffy. Reason being someone on probation or parole is still technically going time-- just in society. That's why they can go back to jail so soon.

I was curious about the same thing. You know what I was also wondering?;How are they able to charge those guys for talking to an adult that was posing as a teen? How can you charge someone for doing something they only thought they were doing?Perhaps alot of Dateline's"captives" got off the hook because of this.....Which would make the investigation almost pointless and more for our entertainment and awareness than for actually catching anyone.Hmmm,I wonder how we can find this stuff out.............Good question:)

For your image to appear on television the predator does have to give permission. I believe that some of them may have consented to get a lower bail.

I think that they do have to give permission, but since they committed a crime like all the people that you see on the news, they don't give permission so I am not sure, good question I have wondered myself

I guess the real question should be, do you have the right to photograph someone in your house? The perv's showed up their on their own accord, and entered the house on their own volition, so they should be subjected to whatever they asked for.
