I heard that 2005 was the hottest year on record and now 2006 summer was the hottest ever. What is it going to take for people to take action?

1936 was the hottest year on record. You should read "State Of Fear" to get some balance, after watching the Al Gore movie. I'll bet you'll give me 10 points then.

1 - Yes, the world is "warming" very slightly - the real issue is WHY? And the answer "The evil humans." doesn't quite cut it.

2 - No, although I've heard it's a mish-mash of the usual simplistic nonsense.

The notion that 2005 and 2006 are the "hottest years on record" is nothing but hot air. You need to widen your examination of sources if you wish to become well-informed on this issue that seems to have so many people so convinced (one way or the other) while still having, generally speaking, NO meaningful facts with which to back up their opinions.

In other words, we hear LOTS of opinions but the bandwidth is very narrow and not at all deep.

Science has proven, time and time again, that global warming as caused by the greenhouse effect. That is why there's been such a need for emissions testing and things of the like.

If you check out National Geographic, you'll see that we've had a major problem with the polar icecaps melting. The salinity or alkalinity of the water changes the currents, which can cause a spike in tsunamis, rogue waves, and hurricanes, to name a few.

It has been shown that the water temperature within the last 100 years has gone up by one degree centigrade. I know that doesn't sound like much, but in the scheme of things, it really is a lot.

It is a fascinating subject, albeit horrifying.

I think if your news sources are legitimate (that is, scientific and not political) there can be no doubt that the planet is warming. Glaciers are shrinking at an alarming rate and the polar icecaps are melting as well. Polar bears are becoming cannibalistic because there isn't enough ice for them to ride out on floes and get their usual prey. What's more, there is a clear correlation between the rise of CO2 levels in the atmosphere and the rise in temperature, suggesting that human activity is at least in part responsible.

The point is, it takes political will to arrest this trend and I don't see that happening. Politicians and corporations both focus on the short term and what are needed are commitments to long-term strategies. If we don't act, as a planet, New York and London will likely be under water in 50 years.

Yes and Yes.

Btw. because many areas will warm while others will cool it is better addressed as 'climate change' rather than 'global warming'. Although the end net result will be global warming the words make it sound like it will get warmer everywhere, that is not the case.

To comment on the previous response, take a look at a chart ANY chart, you will notice that when there is a trend there are peaks and valleys, the trend will be overall in one direction but it is not necessarily always higher or always lower, it is higher highs and higher lows. The clue here is that both are higher than the previous ones.

It's all BS to try and stir an uproar.

Look at how calm this years hurricane season has been, and then compare it to the crap you heard after Katrina. You'll then note that everything Gore says is comprised of hot air expelled from a mass of fat.
