Salaries vary greatly among states, counties, and school districts.
Moreover, salaries are typically based on years of experience and education level. (PhD. Masters, Bachelors)
People often do not realize that teacher's have the ability to earn more during the summer as well.
Also, coaching, committee chairpersons, etc. offer stipends to increase your salary.

ON Long Island, they start at 50, then when Tenure kicks in around 85, and then when you add there PHD, and they pay for the PHD, you can get up too around 120K/ year
not bad for someone who works 30 hr/s a week and only 180 days a year

It depends on the State and school district. In Ohio my Dad had tenure and made about 30K about 15 years ago. Here in PA I think they start at 25K with full benefits....not bad for about 10 months of actual work time....Although, they do hold one of the most important jobs in the world...educating our children.

Not near enough for the crap and paperwork they put up with. If the state legislature had to work 187 days for the pay we get, I bet you'd have to beat the bushes to find people to run for the office.

Since teachers are state employees, their salaries are public record. If you go to the website of any school district you are interested in, you can go to the salary table and compare salaries yourself.

Not enough. Unfortunately, this country puts far too little value on education. That's why we've got the government we have, and why we're in the trouble we're in.
