Is that a question? Every one knows that the atmosphere is there to filtrate the extra dangerous light that is coming form the sun. and it also keep all the gases( oxygen, carbon......) around the earth. If there is no atmosphere the ultra violate light will kill us all, and it will cause an abnormal Born's, by the way , the abnormal Born's already started.
But the human is destroying this cover and someday there will be no life on this planet, So pack ur bags because we r leaving this planet.

In addition to the three excellent answers already given, the atmosphere screens out harmful radiation from the sun that would kill live on the surface of Earth. I think that is a little important.
