I would definitely recommend taking private lessons. Your director can probably suggest some good tutors. If that's not possible, then I would say you'd just have to practice; work on scales, rhythms, fingerings, and tone. Make sure you have good reeds and a good mouthpiece (I'm currently using Vandoren 3s- silver box, and a Vandoren B45 mouthpiece). Have fun! :)

Maybe you could get with a more advanced clarinet player and have them help you a little. But if that's not an option, just make sure your mouth is tight against the mouthpiece. Scales will help tremendously considering it is the most important thing in music. Buy a songbook and play through it. Practice will help since it can make you extremely better. Try and find out about any contests or places that you can go and play a song to get scored. Maybe you have a Solo and Ensemble thing you can go to. It'll help you play in front of people and tell you how good you are.

Hey, I'm in high school also and I've been playing the clarinet since the 6th grade and I've always got first or second chair. All I do is practice, but it really helps me alot if I hear the peice before I play it so that I'm familiar with what I'm going to play. But GO CLARINETS!

Practice, practice, practice.
Learn the chromatic scales, work on your fingering, make sure you're using the proper reed.
I played Clarinet for nearly 10 years and then stopped when I graduated. I picked one up not too long ago and still knew the chromatic scale...nearly 20 yrs after I'd last played it.

look, they are going to exchange up a splash. Be greater rebellious and all that "solid" stuff. yet, you should stay in contact of their life and you should enable them to "play around" with each and everything a splash. you should enable them to %. their very own training too. If their college is unquestionably strict on pointless stuff, than do not panic each and every time you get a letter interior the mail. Their grades might drop a splash interior the middle, yet do not panic, they only are not used to the homework and stuff, by ability of the 2d semester you adult males will all adjust to having little ones in severe college, quite that is not that undesirable.

Etudes and exercises are VERY beneficial. I recommend anything by Rose, Klose, or Baermann.
