I want to update my wardrobe but don't want to spend a lot. What are some "basic" things I could buy?

I love shopping at TJ Maxx or Marshalls. You can get some pretty good label stuff for super cheap!

For fall and winter, you will want to have at least a basic black and a basic khaki pair of slacks.

Also get some cable knit sweaters in several different colors that look good on you. Stay away from prints, they're harder to mix and match.

get one black and one brown pair of boots and a black and a brown belt.

A basic white button down can dress up any round neck sweater.

A black coat and a brown coat. A black purse and a brown purse.

Then get a bunch of funky scarves to dress up and mix and match with the different sweaters. Maybe some cute hats that coordinate with the scarves. You will have a good basic wardrobe for the cold weather!

Accessories. Buy one or two of the new wide belts and wear it over a jacket or blazer. Another new trend is skinny pants. Either purchase a pair in black or if you sew, take in a pair of your favorite jeans and make them skinny legged. Tunics are in, so get one in black and use it as a layering piece over pants, skirts and jeans. (Belt it too!)

buy black dress pants, a blazer, black boots, jeans, and a big purse. accessorize with belts and jewlery. weather you want casual or dressy a nice white button up shirt can be good for both.
