I think Latin America is very much overlooked. We are so focused on the Middle East, that we are failing to see problems right up against our borders.
Hugo Chavez and other radical Latin Americans are aligning themselves with Iran and others, making a strike easier to accomplish on U.S. soil.
Let's hope that the focus shifts to addressing problems closest to our borders. The Canadian border is also an issue, where terrorists can slip through.

Hugo Chavez went on the nightly news program "Nightline" while Ted Kopel was still the host. He said he had evidence that the CIA had interfered with his country's elections. He also said he had documented evidence that the U.S. Navy had been conducting exercises in case the U.S. decided to invade his country.
If you would like to read a transcript of the interview, see this webpage: http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/International/story?id=1134098&page=2
I don't know about the accuracy of the information that Chavez has, but he certainly seemed to believe it.
If it were me and I believed another nation had done those things, I would go out of my way to make situations difficult for them.

I don't think Hugo Chavez hates Americans, just our government! Besides, Venezuela is a pretty small place with only 25,730,435 (July 2006 est.) people. They have thier own problems to take care of, like sewage pollution of Lago de Valencia; oil and urban pollution of Lago de Maracaibo; deforestation; soil degradation; urban and industrial pollution, especially along the Caribbean coast; threat to the rainforest ecosystem from irresponsible mining operations

Yeah, plenty of people are even if the left-loving mainstream media isn't.
It's really too bad that the Vennies found themselves with a choice between the gangsters that had been running the country for 40 years and a so-called "populist" (read dictator).
Eventually, if Chavez doesn't clean up his act he'll be dealt with. If he stays in his own country abusing only his own people he'll probably be there until the Vennies themselves overthrow him.

Gee, I don't know why he'd hate the US. they just walked in, and took over the oil production without asking, started factories that polluted thecountryside, started strip mining and cutting down forests without any plan to repair any damage they did, then took all profits and products to the US, Hmm' nope, no reason to hate the US at all. Too bad there aren't more people like him.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, those companies pain the venesuelan workers less than 10% of what they pay their American workers and refused to give them any health care or in otherwords, treated them like slaves

We can only be concerned about the gas prices in this country as Venezuela is a major importer of oil. Other than that - he's a clown who exploits the anti-American tendencies around the world. Him, Fidel, and Iranian (what's his name) moron...Good company.

The FARC rebels will never defeat the AUC or the Colombian government. Colombia is more in danger than the US.

i agree. I know any country may make enemies along its path.. but you should always have watchful concern when a country makes public statements about its hatred for another country.
you can only expect to see them supporting another of our enemies in our next conflict. im concerned. good point!

he is trying to expand the international definition of terrorism so as to include US actions in the middle east in the definition.
And I wouldn't worry just about him and his hatred. Few of our allies even like us
