You asked about living in India especially in light of education and entertainment.
To sum up education in India in 2 words: "Intensely Competitive". Right from the kinder garten level, it is a rat race - sometime needlessly so - but it reflects the aspirations of parents to get the "best" opportunities for their children. English medium private schools (convent or otherwise) are most sought after BUT be prepared to pay significant fees / donations to these institutions. Parents are expected to ACTIVELY participate in children's academic life and most DO ! Children's performance is often the topic of family room conversations, so the pressure is extremely high on not just the kids but the entire family.
There is a tad lesser pressure when it comes to college level education (rightly or wrongly) because it is assumed that:
a) the person is old enough to decide on his/her own career
b) based on how good or bad the college is rated, the career prospects are either automatic or next to nothing
Engineering colleges like the IITs, NITs, other state level colleges enjoy the most prestige. Medicine is an equally respected profession. Institutions that enjoy Central or State government funding are more sought after. (in contrast to the fact that at the secondary education level, public schools are the least sought after).
Entertainment:
The kind of variety you have in India is unparalelled - not to say that it is ALL GOOD ! You get your English movies and cable channels and then a million Hindi channels, and even more regional channels. Then you have the local stage theatre (dramas - sadly losing out to TV these days), classical music and dance performances. Just check the listings in your local newspaper for events in the city. Indian TV entertainment is predominantly limited to movies and soap-like programming. News related channels are also getting better these days. When it comes to documentaries, sports or special interest channels (travel / science / religion / arts / history / children), Indian programming is still found to be wanting. Finally, there is always shopping, travelling, eating and socializing that you can do in any major city !

8 out of the 9 answers received make dismal readings. The 9th by Winnie is more level-headed.
The biggest thing about India is its democracy. An English author of the 50s had said," With the mind-boggling diversity of India it is difficult how it is being managed democratically. This experiment may yet fail but a historian of distant future will wonder that a people did exist in this world who could even think that even with such diversifification a people could be managed on democratic lines."
Not that India is running like a royal Rolls Royce. But the charioot of Lord Jaggernaut will roll on like this. Slowly but surely because it is power by 'men-power'.
Living everywhere is problematic because problem is a sign of life. Only the dead one has no problem. So come down to India. Immerse in the Ganga, breath the fresh winds blowing across the country and you will yourself realise what you have missed in living.
