Yes, as you say, it could be for someone else. The reason everyone knows it's giving you difficulty is that you asked for the answer instead of working it in your head, in a few seconds. But I think mistress, above, was mistaken in saying it's a 3rd grade math problem. I'm sure a lot of 3rd-graders could do it, but on the whole, it looks to me more like a problem they would work in the 4th grade. Unless, of course, they used a calculator.

The easiest way to do problems like this is to redefine the equation to give you easier numbers to multiply.
49.95 x 8 = (50 - .05) * 8
= 400 - .40
= $399.60

It's already been stated, but rather than be a dumbass and not answer the question, except with a "there's a calculator in windows...blah blah", I did the math.
Now, to the morons who stated that theirs a calculator on windows, do you realize that in the time it took your to post that statement, you could have opened it, done the problem and instead posted the answer, actually helping your fellow human beings?

Have you ever heard of a calculator? They got them now. It does math equations and stuff. There's even one on your computer. It's easier to use than typing in a question on here... lol

First of all, if you can't do the most basic math, you really need to get a tutor. That's a third grade level problem.
Plus your computer has a calculator. Its in your accessories.
