Therefore, you can write that as a fraction, (1 inch/2.54cm) and also as (2.54cm/1 inch). Multiplying anything by this fraction doesn't affect truth of the number, because this fraction is equal to "1"
Multiply through by this fraction. When flipped the correct way, it will cause the unit you want rid of, to cancel, giving you the unit you want.
So, 11.80 inches x (2.54cm/1inch) =
or, 11.80 cm x (1 inch/2.54cm)=
note that the unit on bottom cancels. You can use long strings of these conversion factors to convert anything to any unit for which you have a valid conversion factor.
