Not sad. Some of the best people I've ever met are people I've met online.
Of course, wherever you meet friends you have the chance of running across ooky people.
So, from the internet or not, having friends is a good thing.

Sometimes when you cant get anyone else to talk to, or want to talk to someone who cant judge you, jumping on the internet and cyber talking is great and so much easier than walking into a pub and talking to a complete stranger. Its safer obviously. Ive just moved to a new area and am finding it difficult to find some female friends to socialise with. Its not that easy to make friends these days (unless its just me).
So going on sites like this one is just fantastic, its easy to talk to people all over the world. Its not sad, if anything, its great to have friends, regardless of how you meet them.
Personally im a laid back friendly individual, if theres someone out there who likes to listen to what i have to say and makes time for me then that is a friend indeed, internet friendships work! xx

no it's not sad! I was cynical at first but at the end of the day we are all human beings despite the fact you're communicating through a machine! Why is it sad? Is it implied one cannot make friends in the real world?! I am a very chatty and friendly person I will talk to anyone through any mode of communication :)

Not sad.
Different friends for different times - and you don't have to feel guilty because you have moved on.
I suffered a bereavement around 18 months ago and was not fit for normal company as I found it hard to stop crying - which annoyed me and most of those around me. However, internet friends were fantastic - I could tell them I was weeping but they couldn't see it and weeping did not stop me typing so I was able to do something rather than just sit and feel worse and worse and worse.
I chat to them sometimes still but not as much as before and we are all fine with that.
Not sad at all.

Not sad.... I have my eye on someone on these boards and have struck up a bit of friendship. She just couldn't resist my charms (sorry if you're reading this!).

It depends, they can be completely normal sometimes, unless its like sad old men preying on young kids.

I don't think it's bad. The people I IM I knew already, but I wouldn't object to having a friend on-line. I think you should draw the line at dating. It's too dangerous. I'm involved with someone, so it doesn't apply to me anyway.
