Retro isn't the word for it.....Personally, I think that top is not attractive. Add to that the fact that in the resturant business, that top is going to get dirty QUICK. You need something that servers can wear that isn't going to be too difficult to clean and isn't going to get dirt on it easily. Let her know that the neckline that's on that top is not very condusive to a resturant business.
If she's looking for something that offers a classic, clean cut look I would take a look at this or something like it: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2908708/0~2376776~2374327~2378057~2378081?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=2378081&P=1
it's from Nordstrom and is likely to remain in style so she won't have to update her uniform very quickly.
Good luck!

The cut and form of the blouse is tailored close fit, professional looking, the bow is not practical for any restaurant. Will interfere in your work as a guest server. Sizing is 2-14.. do all 3 servers fit into that size range. $198.00 for a uniform blouse that is cotton, and has to be dry cleaned in a small restaurant environment.. you will be picking up the cost of cleaning I am assuming. Not to mention you will need more than 1 blouse. Retro has nothing to do with the fact that this is not a practical uniform garment for you or the employer. Let your boss know that he/she would be spending more money in the long run with a garment such as this
This garment would be torn up in a very short period of time as food and beverage server. If you are picking up the cost of your own uniform, Point out everything I just said to your employer. The best fabric for your environment would be a 50/50 cotton poly blend..washable.

Retro?! How about ridiculous? The bow looks too fashion-forward for a uniform. It needs to be a little more conservative for the service industry. That top would look more appropriate as a uniform if the bow was much shorter in length and smaller in size. Your intuitions are 100 percent correct. Can you imagine all the food stains that would accumulate if a server were to wear it?

LOL, LOL. The shirt is heinous!!!! No wonder she has some deal at Nordstroms, they probably want to get rid of this pronto. You would only need a big-shouldered blazer in a nice shade of teal to pull it off right. HOwever, I am sure there is a way to make it cool. Put some fringe at the bottom of the bow straps. The bow would be very impractical working around foodstuffs.

Besides the fact that I think that shirt is just plain ugly(ew), I think it is too much for the workplace. This wouldn't work in even the more upscale restaurants. A plain white dress shirt without little details should work in a restaurant setting

Yes it is. It is not only ugly, but it would be so uncomfortable for the server to wear. White, no way in a restaurant make it a dark color. How about making a suggestion to wear polo shirts.

If it's Diane von Furstenberg, you know it's retro. Unless you work in a theme restaurant, this makes no sense. Almost reminds my of the Seinfeld puffy shirt episode.

No way she wants you to wear a DVF blouse as a uniform, so I'm guessing she just means the style. Either way, no! The model looks uncomfortable in it. How are you supposed to wait tables in something like that. It looks old, frumpy and unflattering.

It is too retro. Cotton would not be a great choice for restaurant work, especially since the description says it is dry clean only. Is she providing dry cleaning costs for you?
