WELL, LET'S SEE WITHOUT HURTING or embarrsing this person you might suggest or say , my teeth feel funny or even bad and i am gonna go , brush , floss and or gargle that the person will get the idea that if your brushing that they might need to as well and THAT ALSO WILL GIVE THEM THE BIG HINT , IF NOT , THEN you will have to use the straight approach and just tell this person the truth BUT NO MATTER WHAT YOU DECIDE REMEMBER YOU get more response with honey than you do with vinegar, so in other words JUST BE NICE !!

it would be more polite to pass him a piece of gum or a breath mint. or if it's his whole body just make a joke out of it like "someone had garlic for lunch today" so he knows he smells without having to say he smells

Lead him into the bathroom and tell him u'll be waiting for him. I know this sounds a little wacky, but it should do the trick.
