Light is generally needed by plants that have chlorophyill. Since Fungii don't have that and instead have Gills to breath, they do not need light. They generally feed on the thing that they grow on and don't produce their own food like plants do.

There are five kingdoms, which are distinguished largely by what they eat.

Two are monocellular: Protista and monera. The remaining three are plants, which are autotrophs (they make their own food with light), animals, which are heterotrophs (they eat other living things), and fungi, which are saprotrophs (they eat non-living organic matter).

Arguably, a saprotroph is a kind of heterotroph. And in many ways fungi are more like animals than plants. Don't be fooled!

mushrooms are fungi type organism.though they come under kingdom plantae,it has many dissimilarities with green autotrophic plants who made their own food by light,CO2 , water, chlorophyll by photosynthesis process.but fungi is saprophytic. they expel enzymes and digest their adherent complex food material (starch) into a simple one (glucose), then they are capable to make it use as their food or energy source.so not the sunlight but the enzymes are key of their life process.

mushrooms lead a saprophytic(depends on others for food) life.as they dont have chlorophyll to prepare food,so they dont need light.

They don't require photosynthesis because they are a fungus. They do require moisture and warmth.

fungii do not require light because they do not engage in photosynthesis, which is why plants require light.

Because they are saprophytic.
