I second the pnemonia post. Get the hamster back to the pet shop, and ask them more information about it, such as whether it was breed in the shop, or if they bought it from a customer, or from a breeding "farm".
Also- what type of bedding are you using? Hamsters have extremly sensitive respritory systems, and both pine and cedar bedding has toxic oils in it that can cause breathing problems in hamsters.
It might also be something else in the air- do you spray cleaning chemicals around the cage? Clean the cage with chemicals? Spray air freshners?
Imagine what it tastes & feels like when YOU breath those things in. The effect on a tiny animal is 100 times worse.
If none of those quick things have happened around the hamster, then definetly get it into a vet.

Hamsters are prone to pneumonia, and without helping it fast, it will die. Take it to the vet immediately, it needs antibiotics. I am a reputable animal healer, and you can see examples of results of my work with animals, including x-rays and testimonies by world animal experts, on the Dhaxem website. I can help to suggest additional remedies to keep your hamster fit and healthy, but he needs immediate veterinary assistance, right now.
The one thing you must always watch out is that he is kept dry and out of drafty spots! He may have contracted the problem in transit when you bought him.

Hamsters are very nervous creatures, if he is new then he is just nervous and getting used to his surroundings. Now if you smoke, alot of little animals are sensitive to smoke and air freshiner sprays(if sprayed close to him), stuff like that. But if u do none of that, then its just his nervs, because ive experienced many hampsters like that...and my longest lived 4 years:)
