I'm reading a book right now called, "Fat Fallacy," and it describes how the French people stay thin (only 8% obesity rate there).
One key thing was how they eat: they take their time, savoring each bite, and chewing well before they swallow. They put less on their forks at a time, put down their forks between bites, and don't take another bite till they have swallowed the previous bite. This will give the stomach time to signal the brain when it is full. So you end up eating less AND feeling full. Plus it helps you enjoy your food, and gives you more time for dinner conversation.
The 2nd key thing was what kind of food they eat: everything in moderation. They don't analyze carbs, grams, and calories the way we tend to do, or cut out entire types of food, e.g., carbs, sugars, etc., the way we might. But one interesting fact was their main source of fats: dairy. Upwards of 85 percent of their fat intake came from full-fat cheese, full-fat yogurt, whole milk, etc. They go easy on red meat, though (lamb, beef, pork). Also, they love chewy, crusty bread (it does take longer to chew!) And they are not afraid to have a glass of wine with their meal.
Oh, and one of his BIG points was that they don't eat "faux foods" like we do, meaning processed foods that have lots of artificial ingredients and chemicals that we can't even pronounce, and which the body wasn't designed to handle.
For exercise, the author advises walking every day. It takes no special equipment or ability; anyone can do it, and it's inexpensive.
I am going to try this approach. It makes sense to me, and I am not lactose intolerant! :-) I hope this helps you, too.

Well you can use portion control rather than eating 3 meals a day try cutting down the size of the meals and eat 6 times - this will help your body feel like it is eating more often and yet you will not be eating as much. Also keep very hydrated with water and or tea (if you like tea) try not to drink lots of sugary soda (or diet) things like that will make you crave sweets and there for they will be much harder to resist.
As for some practical meals - try going to Better Homes and Gardens www.bhg.com they have lots of different (low-cal... ) meals that are not very exotic and are very good and you feel more statisfied when you get the right nutrients.
As for exercise you might have to start slow if you haven't done anything at at but just try to get out and do somthing 3 times a week if it is running, biking, even walking... then start to move it up and introduce weight training when you feel more comfortable with you ability.
Also a good website to check out that might help you out a lot with some of these questions is SELF www.self.com they have the "self goal" and they will give you eating plans and excersise plans based on what you choose as your goal!
PS it will also help to get an accountability partner - someone that you tell your goals to daily or weekly or whateve set time you choose and you keep track of your weekly /daily goals and they will be the one to "enforce" you to get out and go work out - It will help to know that someone is there for you and you have to get out there and do it as you are working with someone else...
Good Luck
let me know if you have more questions..

Please, If you are are a girl between 10-14 DONT WORRY ABOUT IT! You are growing that's what you're suppose to do. I remember when I was in 8th grade. I thought I was unpopular and chubby. I look back now, and i actually looked great and had great friends. I wished I had as much confidance back then as I do now. I am currently a model. So when people tease you about your looks, don't worry about it because it doesn't matter in the long run.

Get out of the house and away from the food. Go for a walk. If you feel hungry drink a glass of water first.
