To stay positive? This is a catch 22, because it brings in questions of selfishness, and selflessness.
It's easy to stay positive if you concentrate on your own life, find a brilliant partner, get a great job, decorate your flat to your own tastes, keep healthy, have interesting hobbies.
It's not so easy if you look around you, look at the suffering of others. I presume you write from the 'first world' and not from a refugee camp in Sudan or a slum in Bangladesh. I presume you're not writing from southern Lebanon or northern Iraq (please forgive me if I've got this totally wrong and you truly are in a bad situation, but I'll continue on the basis that you, having access to yahoo answers, are at least not bereft of the comforts of life).
You are, of course, right. This is truly a 'discontented world' and we truly are fortunate to be corresponding from our dining room tables (in my case) with each other about the philosophical aspects of it. When you boil your question down, it comes to guilt.
I sense that you are a person who is conscious of his / her luck, that you weren't born into abject poverty / war / oppression but have the time, leisure and technology to ask the question you did in this forum. The answer to your question (imhp) is Yes, it is, because we don't choose our stations (stationary, here-and-now aspects) in life, but we CAN choose our directions, By posing such questions as yours on this type of forum, knowing that you will prick the conscience of us all (God knows how many and from where), you will make us think about what you are thinking and make us wonder where you are going, and you will have shed a little light on a perennial, important question.
I would love to expand this, but I fear I'm getting a little twee. I suggest (with all due respect) that you refine and distill your thoughts and ask another question. What do you mean by a 'discontented world'? What would you like to see? You are on an interesting path, and you could make a difference.

Your `zone' of influence and control extends out whenever you find a way to handle a situation or issue; and this not only effects the people around you, but gives back a feeling that is very positive. Helping others extends that even further; as they in turn, have a positive effect on the people around THEM.
Hope you find my answer was positive!

Yes, it is possible but for so many people, myself included it is hard. You almost have to make yourself find something good in every day. It is easy to see all the bad around you it is sometimes hard to see the positive.

There are those who see a problem and moan about it; then there are those who see an opportunity and do something about it - however small. I will not give up on our future and our possibilities.

I think it's possible...for all of those who live in their own little bubble. I myself find it hard to stay positive.
