The spider produces a strand and the wind blows it one direction until it reaches another contact point. Then it crawl back and forth and start the web.
I think that's how it works.

they swing on the spider thread to web it, it takes about 6 hours for a spider to make a whole entire web for themselves.

its a lot of hard work by the sounds of it. I saw one that was across a 3 foot gap, and the spider was sat in the middle. One of those fat little ones we see in the autumn.

it makes a thread joins it to one side of something, drops down, walks across up the other side (still carrying its thread) and joins it there, viola.

they climb down while releasing web then walk to the other side and climb up. im not sure if then they reel their web back up their a$s or they somehow pull it up and cut off the extra bit they don't need.
