I retired from working on appliances. GE was a good brand, my favorite was Maytag until they sold out. Since Maytage left so many people in Newton, Iowa without jobs I would go with the GE above all others.

I had trouble with our Maytag Neptune (purchased new) & was glad to be rid of it. The Sears water savers are manufactured by Whirlpool & very good. We have the Frigidaire front loader now and they are OK.
Our GE refrigerators have lasted a long time with no problems. But I've never had the washing machine by GE.

The GE Profile Series is a good brand. Me, I'm a Maytag girl. My set is 18 years old and in perfect working order.

I just purchased a GE front loading set from Sears. I am so thrilled with them. Large capacity, and most of all quiet! I moved into a house with a separate laundry room, but you can't even hear them unless the door is open! They definitely get my vote!

Perhaps you would have good luck with GE but I never did and I made it a point to NEVER buy anything GE again. I like the Maytag..... others are good also.. i.e. hotpoint, amana is very good.

We've had pretty good luck with them. If you can afford it, though, for the washer, you'll be better off with one of the front-load models that have become popular again. They wash better, and use less water and detergent per load. ther is no advantage, though, to the high-priced matching dryers.

I have no experience with their washers and dryers but have had terrible experiences with other appliances. (A refrigerator that went kaput after only one year, a vacuum that it was impossible to change the filter bag, and a microwave that peeled and rusted on the inside after less than a year.)

I have a "Frigidaire" and absolutely love it ! I even bought it second hand and its still going !! as for GE... check them out deeper..some times the machines are made by the same manufacturer but simply has a different name on it..for example : Whirlpool vs. crosley (spelling) Happy Hunting ! : )

I'd go with Sears, if I were you. I shopped around quite a bit for mine and found that Sears has the best selection--even a hybrid of a Whirlpool that only they sell. They've been very dependable!
