Suspension squeaking is not a failure point on the mot test , however while it is being tested , the tester may be adle to see why it is sqeaking and advise you as to what needs doing , most likely a bush will need replacing soon as it may have dried out , worth getting it checked though in case it's something dangerous

I'm sure he/you could have bought a decently maintained MOT'd Puma for £1k. Why buy a banger off eBay? As to regards the advert; If it reads "9x Ford Puma for sale" and little more, then you've not really got any comeback. No-ones been misleading or dishonest. If it says "9x Ford Puma for sale, Very Good Condition" Then the description HAS been dishonest and you can get ALL your money back. Even from eBay. It doesn't need to mention whether it has an MOT or not, if it's being sold as VGC and has been declared unroadworthy by a garage, then the seller has been dishonest. Fixing...Well it all depends whether it's being done in a garage or at home. Good news is, the Puma is basically a mid-90s Fiesta so parts are cheap. Bad news is, the Puma is basically a mid-90s Fiesta so parts are cheap (alternative meaning). I'm bored so I;ve used Google *rolls eyes* to see roughly how much each part would cost. Not necessarily new. If your mate fancies a project then he might be alright and then be able to sell the car on for about £10 profit lol. Remember, garages charge approx. £40/hr. A new MOT is going to cost £50. ABS lamp £10->£100+ (unknown problem) H/Brake Cable (rear section) - £25 each side Suspension mounting/sills? Guessing actual Sub-frame - Breakers - £100+ (???) Tyre - £50 Brake Pipes - £40 All this excludes postage etc. I don't think your estimate is too far out for parts but NOT labour. A garage will be dubious about using second hand parts btw so new these parts are going to be at least x2 as much. Subframe even more! In fact garages are dubious of you sourcing new parts yourself as they like to mark up. The buggers! Post the ebay advert if you can. It's still available from your friend even though it's ended.

I dont think a squeak could make it fail but if a part has failed i.e. a spring has broken, meaning metal moving against metal causing the squeak then it might.
If you can find another garage that's willing to do a free quote on looking at it for you then it might be worth letting them quote you, so you can get an ideal of why it's doing it?
Some times getting someone to give the suspension bushes a spray with some silicone lubricant will quieten them up and find out if the bushes causing the squeak.

The squeak is either a dry rubber bush (please dont spray it with WD40 as this perishes rubber and plastic but use silicone lubricant instead) or perhaps a shock absorber which is an easy fix at any old garage. The squeak in itself will not fail the MOT unless it is being produced by a problem.

It's not going to fail 'cos it squeaks, but it may fail if the squeak is being caused by some mechanical problem.... let them test it, then you know where the goal posts are.... my 02 Berlingo is in for test tomorrow but i always think it's better to have the "fail" slip to work to than to try and fix everything....

it would depend on why its squeeking a noise in itself is not an mot failure item but if the noise is caused by a defect that is covered by the test then it may well fail, send the car in and see, not all mot stations charge for retests.

Depends why it squeaks, could be a worn out shock or bush so it will fail
Or could be a dry bush which needs a drop of WD 40 which should not fail.
MOT bloke will know .

It depends on what is squeking most probably its just suspension bushes if they are not damaged and will not affect the overal safety of passengers and other road users its not going to fail.
