If prostitutes break the law by having sex for money, why aren't porn film stars also breaking the law by doing what is essentially the same thing? Furthermore, if the fact that the porn stars are being filmed while having sex for money is what excuses them from being arrested, couldn't prostitutes also film themselves at work as a way of avoiding arrest?

Here's the correct answer....porn stars get paychecks and pay taxes. The porn industry is a legal business. The taxes is what makes the big difference.

It's because both the porn stars are getting paid to perform a sex act as entertainment. And the film crew and director also gets some of the money.
In a traditional prostitution arrangement, only one person is getting paid to provide sex and the other person is doing the paying. This usually isn't considered entertainment, but a service.

all comes down to INTENT...porn stars are not having sex for money or pleasure...it is to produce a movie or a product to be sold. Prostitutes are providing sex for money...sex is the end product not a movie

that is a good question. but i think that porn has to be registered. so some john coming off the street cant just jump in front of the camera. they have to have a porn name and be registered with the govt. It kinda kills the anonymity thing that most prostitutes have going for them. i think the Charlie Sheen said " I dont pay a prostitute to have sex with me. I pay her to leave in the morning."
