My children under 10 already know that - and we live in Canada. It scares me that so many people write and complain and call names - and yet there are people who don't know the basics of how the US government works. I hope I'm not insulting the questioner too much - but - yeegads! This is a government "by the people" after all...

Oops. Didn't mean to insinuate that Canadians know more about their own government or the US government than the typical American knows about theirs. That did sound a little insulting. I'm sorry.

And I am glad that the asker was interested enough to ask - I do hope it was not just to fill in the answers on a worksheet for school and then promptly forget though.

The version taught in schools is different than the real case but...Popular believe is that the President is the final authority. Congress and the House of Representatives are supposedly proposing and voting on what the populace wants.

The real answer is quite different. The Ruling Class chooses their figurehead and we're afforded the illusion of choice and freedom just so long as we surrender our freedoms in an orderly manner, pay an illegal income tax and watch all of the results of our labors profit the corporations owned by those in power.

By the people? Maybe "...done unto the people" is a bit more appropriate.

The president of the United States George W. Bush is the highest level of the American Government I think. This is a good question for us from other countries, so we can learn about " America the Beautiful ! " The government is different than the one we have and it is interesting to learn about how our southern neighbors operate.
Thanks for asking.

Actually, the highest level of the American government is the People, as declared by the people's Constitution. It is the creator of government and Supreme Law of the Land. It is above all delegated governmental power.

But yes, the question did seem a bit naive. I would chalk that up to our wonderful Public Education (indoctrination) System. When it was first conceived and implemented, it's declared mission was to create workers for industry, not thinkers.

not surprising being that everyone from the vice president, the secretary of defense, to both houses have ran the show for the past 7 years. i'm kidding..?

yes, very scary and disheartening to know that even this level of ignorance has interest in the government that has allowed this miseducation. at least there is an interest in knowing more on the behalf of the asker, eh?

It is sad! I am one embarrassed American! That is ONE reason we decided to send our kids to a private school seven years ago, and they will be there until the last one graduates. We have found that they get a much better education.... it also helps if the parents do use some teaching moments when with their kids!

Eeep, I'm not sure I know the answer to that! Does the president count as 'a level'? Otherwise, um the Senate? I'm from England though, I have an excuse.

Oh properly, all you're able to do is attempt to forget approximately approximately them and function exciting besides.

Yeah by the people ,of the people, and for the people, but ya know most of them take it for granted and don't even care about it. We have so many freedoms here that you don't have in other country's (Iraq) We can say what we want, when we want, with out any repercussions and yet they gripe about it.

Scary isn't it? This questioner was obviously a product of the liberal education we have in this country.
