Most likely the quarters weren't equivalent.
For example, maybe there were 2 tests the 1st quarter and 3 tests the 2nd quarter. If each test has equal weight, then the 1st quarter contributes 40% and the 2nd quarter 60%.
In that case, Jenny's average would be
(70 * 0.4) + (80 * 0.6) = 76

For the first half she averaged 75 points . You do not have the results of the 3rd and 4th quarters so you cannot figure her average for the game .Take the number of points scored in each quarter 70 and 80 , add them together you get 150 . Divide that by the number of quarters , in this case 2 . Your answer is 75 point average in the first half of the game .

If one is averaging those scores over 4 quarters, and she scored no more points over the next 2 quarters, then the average becomes
37 1/2 points per quarter for the game.
She averaged 75 points the first two quarters only.

Well perhaps the answer is that you have points for only two quarters so some information is missing.
Quarters come in fours so the points only add up to two of four quarters.
And if you have the points for the other two quarters and averaged them (i.e. divide by 4), you will get the average for all quarters and it was different from the 75.

The average of those numbers is 75: (70+80)/2=75.

If one quarter has more days than the other quarter (i.e., 90 days in one and 92 in the other), and you're using the points from each day to get your average, then the average based on the total days of both quarters wouldn't be the same as the average of just the 2 quarters.

the totals may not be the same in both the quarters
lets say she got 700/1000 in the first quarter her average ifs 70
let us say she got 600 out of 800 in the second quarter
the net average of the two quarters is 1300/1800 which is not 75

b/c a quarter is four and since there is no values for the other two quarters then she averaged zero for them which would mean that the average would be:
(70 + 80 + 0 + 0) / 4 = 37.5

There's 4 quarters in a whole game. So you divide by 4 not 2.
