where i live is very superstitious,there are always stories about 'this dude who crossed a witch and was turned into a vulture' and similar stuff.it normally cracks me up but recently my whole family's believing in voodoo.how real is it?does this stuff really happen?

Yes, Voodoo has been around for centuries...if it didn't work it wouldn't have lasted so long

As far as curses and hexes are concerned in Vodou, it is not a practice of ours. In Haiti many believe in using Bokors to put a curse on there enemy. The only thing is the person must be told about the curse in order for the curse to have any power over that person. Bokors do not practice Vodou, they are part of secret societies throughout Haiti.
Does it happen? Yes it does. Does it work? I think it all depends on the area and culture. If as a culture stories of curses are believed then it is real to them. The will honestly feel they were cursed by someone.
Although I practice Haitian based Vodou, I don't believe in the power of curses. Again this goes back to the idea that I live in the US and not in Haiti. I grew not believeing in them. I have not encountered anything to tell or show me otherwise.

voodo will work if you believe in it ,cos it puts you on edge ,and anything that goes wrong in ur life ,you will automatically blame it on the voodo,where in normality it was going to hapen anyway,
it plays with ur mind ,but only if you let it ,its a mind over matter thing,
if you tell a kid in school you are going to beat them up after school ,the mentle torture they go through ,just because you said this ,is enough to have them worried all day ,they wont be able to cosintrate and everything that could go wrong will,because they will believe you will beat them up after school,,,,see what i mean mind over matter ,
so make your self believe its a lot of rubbish ,and that will be what it is .because this will be your new belife.it will be hard to convince your family ,because only they can believe in what they believe in ,so if they cant understand the method by which this works ,then they will have great upsets ,and to them this will be real,voodo makes you destroy yourself ,all it has to do is get you to doubt yourself and your belifes and thats it ,its got you ,
so if somebody put a so called hex on you ,nothing will happen ,if you dont know about it ,but if you hear of it and start to wounder ,then you seem to lose all touch with yourself ,and are left woundering whats going to happen to you ,then you start to panic a bit ,because someone is wishing you badness,its not nice to think that somebody would want to harm you ,but you must remember ,they cannot harm you ,,,,,you harm you by allowing yourself to be manipulated by this person or persons ,who seem to live in their own little world of magic and wounder ,,,,this is their belife not yours,,,,so if they belive you are being disturebed by their strange, unorthadox behaviour,,,,well this is how they get their kicks ,,,just laugh at them and get on with your every day ,,,normal ,,,life ,and let them play silly buggers with theirs,,,they will grow up one day................

It's all superstition. Nothing to it.
A person who believes he's been hexed will often act differently and screw up. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
