I am somewhat new to photoshop. I create flyers and other things for print for my church... When I create a file, I create it at a resolution of 300 pixels/inch (because it's for print), and I will put the dimensions at something like 5 x 7 inches, and it turns out to be HUGE, and the printer won't take it. So when I try to resize it, all of my fonts go very small, one went from a size 12 font to a size 3.5. It looks like a normal size on the screen, but when I send it out will it be too small (the dimensions say something like 1 x 2 inches)... I guess I just want to know how to get it at 300 resolution, and not have to make the file and fonts so small?

This isn't normal. When you go to Image>Image Size, does it show your file as 5 x 7 inches at 300 dpi? Because it sounds like you may have accidently put in some other size of canvas to begin with, something larger. Try this: Start with a new canvas and set the size for 8 x 10 inches. I know the paper is 8.5 x 11, but this will prevent your printer from cutting things off at the edges. You may want to set the dpi for 250, this is plenty fine for a flyer. Then when you print it out, it should give you something that's the right size for 8 1/2 x 11 paper. You can put your info on one size, select it, copy it, and put it onto the other side, too, so you can print two at a time.

Don't worry about pixels per inch. It's for print but not what you are doing. More like real pictures is what that is used for. Then just size it 5x7. Do a preview page to make sure its what you want. Hope that helps.. Also save it as a jpeg or gif before printing this will shrink it to the right size. Do not print in real photoshop format

use the print preview and play with the resolution and size until you get it to fit.

you probably have lots of layers. The printer doesnt need them. save a copy of the file and flatten it.
