If you want to work anywhere serving food, you have to pass a test in your state about handling open foods. I believe it has 25 questions and you can only get 5 wrong. At the door, there should be some packets that come in English and in Spanish. You can take them home to study, or you can study there. The test involves questions about food temperatures, keeping things clean, and things like that. The test should be easy if you study, but if you have trouble, remember that you can only take it once a day.
There should be multiple locations. Search Google for "food handlers card" and then your state, and a website should appear with the locations and times. Read the whole page to make sure that you don't miss important links.
When you go to take the test, tell them you are a volunteer if you are one. Volunteers get simple cards, but the paid workers have to pay for their cards but get more professional-looking ones.

To work anyplace they serve food, from fast food to fine restaurants, you must get a food handlers card. You go to a local junior or community college, they give classes all the time, and you take the class, pass the test, and get your card. Call the admissions office for information.

If you are already employed at a restaurant, you should check with management to see if they would pay for you to attend the class. If not, you can check with your local Public Health District Office and find out where the class is being held. I think it's called a Sanitation and Health Certification. Good luck.
