There are four possible answers to this question. what's the Simple Subject in the Sentence?

The simple subject is the one "doer" of the verb in the sentence - except in passive voice sentences where the verb is done to the subject, There can also be "compound subjects" with more than one doer.
Or, you could be talking anout YOUR sentences, in which case one simple subject would be " answers" in your first sentence, and "What" in the second sentence.

Darned if I can come up with a fourth possible answer.

Duh - unless (Oh No) it's "the Simple Subject."
