People have differences of opinion. People see things differently for various reasons. It's this type of mentality on BOTH sides of the fence (I am a liberal myself) conservative AND liberal that keeps things from getting done in our country.
Having everyone agree with you and maintain the status quo is the makings of a fascist society.
Furthermore, such important historical movements like abolitionisism, women's suffrage, and civil rights were all started by liberals. Do you really want to live in a society with slave labor and women treated as more of a subordinate class as they are now? Many would go as far to argue that the Founding Fathers were liberals of their day, most of them international travelers, and against hegemonic religiously-sanctioned leadership. Oh and they were all about speaking out and protesting against the government. Did they suffer from a mental disease too?
Your question is immature and lacks evidence.

Without us liberals and our "mental disease" you wouldn't have clean air, decent living conditions, getting fair wages, you'd probably still be working in a sweatshop.
The list can go on and on. But if you want to call that a mental disease, then you need to have your head examined.

I have to agree with Chris J. I think Liberalism is just a natural phase people go through. When you are in high school making no money and college making almost no money, it's easy to say we need to have social programs to give money to the poor and downtrodden. It seems like the right thing to do, right?
Once people get out into the real world and start making money and see how much of it is taken out in taxes to support social programs that don't work; and now they have to worry about making enough money to pay for their own families, they start to have a change of heart. And people eventually realize that social problems related to poverty are much deeper, and cannot be fixed by simply throwing money at it. And, in fact, simply throwing money at it can actually make the problem worse.
I think it was Winston Churchill who said:
"If you are not a liberal at twenty, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative at forty, you have no brain."

Please give the diagnostic code for "liberalism." I have my handy Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fourth Ed. which categorizes all mental disorders, and as I read through the index.....Hmmmm, I don't see "liberalism," so it's not a mental disease. Nice try though.

Because they have the need to be contrary to all reason and facts
They think responsibility of their lives should be in the hands of the Government
Points of view are bases on Feelings with no regard to Facts and Reason
Only see one side of an argument and are blind to all else are not open to new ideas
