and my favorite of later years has to be "timescape" When Troi, Picard, and Data find the enterprise frozen after a warpcore breach, with romulans firing on the enterprise.

Well since you named two favorites, I'll give you mine...

They would be "The Inner Light" (Episode 525) and "Yesterday's Enterprise" (Episode 315). For totally different reasons.

"The Inner Light" was the one where a probe the Enterprise finds locks onto Picard and over the course of less than a 1/2 hour, Picards memory is infused with living a lifetime on a planet that's been dead for a thousand years. This episode won the 1993 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation. The award was given at the World Science Fiction Convention in San Francisco. "The Inner Light" was the first television program to be so honored since 1968's Star Trek episode "The City on the Edge of Forever".

"Yesterday's Enterprise" was also very cool. I always love a good space battle! It was a neat way to bring back Tasha for one episode too. Although the resulting episodes with Denise Crosby as a Romulan were kind of weak.

There are of course many many more I really enjoyed, but those are my top two.

I liked the one where the people of a dying planet got into Picard's mind and made him feel like he was living an entire life on that planet, although it was really just 20 minutes, so that someone would know about their culture before the planet died.
