This is funny. Some of the people answering this question have no clue about soda and prenancy. I have first hand experience and can tell you that you can drink soda while pregnant. It's hilarious that people think you can't. The only reason you couldn't is if you have gestational dibaetes. At that point you would need to watch your sugar. Other than that, drink soda of any kind. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about.

Drinking soda is not going to kill you. Just be smart about it -- don't drink a six-pack of Coke a day. My doctor told me that one 8 oz. glass of soda or other caffeinated beverage, like coffee, is just fine. It's the caffeine -- not the sugars in your soda that are unhealthy, so switching from regular to diet won't make much of a difference since they both contain the same amount of caffeine.

Well, drinking soda either diet or regular is not healthy. They contain caffeine. It's okay to drink once in awhile but not too much.

Generally speaking, soda is not good at all. It has nothing to do with pregnancy, it is just a bad habit. However, if you aren;t ready to get rid of it, stick to caffeine free, because that is really what they want you to avoid. There has been some research on caffeine as a possible cause for colic, but that has not been concluded yet. Also, the closest you can get to natural the better... Try carbonated spring water, like Perrier, with lemon or lime slices in it. That's what I lived on with my second child. Good luck, and congratulations on the baby!!

My ob said that 3 sodas a day is fine. I would only drink one soda and I made sure it didn't have caffeein. That's probably worse than the sugar.

Everything in moderation is your best bet for anything.

Even though the sugar content is low, the sodium content for all sodas are quite high. Pregnancy already puts a lot of pressure on your body and a lot of women will have elevated blood pressure from the pregnancy. You don't need to increase it because of drinking soda. It may lead to pre-eclampsia.

My doctor actually is against diet soda. The aspartame is not good for your baby. Splenda is the only substitute safe to consume during pregancy. I drink one or two a day and did with both pregancys and my first son is smart as a whip and was extemely heathy and this baby (37wks preg) is guarenteed to be over 8 pounds!

No it is better to drink caffine free regular soda. Diet has aspertime and they arent sure of the effects of substitute sweetners during pregnancy. But drinking the caffine free is better.
