Mike has had just good luck with players, there are way better coaches than him Roy and Lute to name a few.

Look, college basketball really is a joke. It's basically a minor league that has been hyped up by the media and public. Also, unlike Wooden's era, players seldom stay all 4 years in college and mature.
Also, give other teams credit. They played better basketball period. The NBA is a joke. They ever call traveling, palming or fouls when they are fouls to feed the star-crazed money making association.
I would also blame Coach K for not playing Brad Miller more and going to a zone D. He's a Duke idiot who racks up wins in a minor league.
By the way money did not buy Team USA. Talent never equals championships or Wilt Chamberlain would have had more than Bil Russell ever did. It's all about team and considering a team like Spain has played together with the same 12 or so for 100 games vs. the thrown together Team USA I'd say bronze was not bad given that.
Roy Williams? Please. Another BS college coach. These are pros at the world level not some minor league.

He's a good coach, but it's hard to really evaluate him considering that he wins with the Duke all-star teams. I'm sure that if he took over Prairie View A & M, he wouldn't be leading them to the NCAA championships. Like all "great" coaches, he's had the benefit of great players with which to work.
As for the debacle this summer, I think that issue goes beyond Coach K. It also has to be with the way American kids are not taught fundamentals like they once were, and the selection of a team without role players. It's tough to win against the best in the world when you don't truly have a "team," just a collection of individuals. They need to do a better job of selecting a team, and I really think they need to have a coach who has proven that they can motivate pros, something Coach K hasn't done.

We need to realize that America and the NBA doesn't have the best players in the world anymore. We don't play defense, we couldn't even defend a simple pick and roll in the world championships. We gotta stop building these all-star teams and put in players like Bowden and Ben Wallace who actually play some form of defense. There isn't a coach in America who could have coached that team to gold.

He showed how much he was overrated by losing in China. The USA's biggest problem was shot selection and the coach should have stopped those players from throwing those 3-pointers up time and time again.

underrated is the best coach in college basketball and could be the best coach ever. He assembles national contending teams year after year. Don't take what happened in the olympics fool you. He is the greatest basketball coach of all time. you could argue dean smith but he didn't have limited scholarships to give out. so there is no way coach K is not the greatest coach in the history of basketball or probably the history of sports.

I was going to write up my thoughts, but don't have to, Crag S and Nyne and the Mehrt kind of hit the nail on the head. One thought though, it is not that we don't have the best players any more, it is they just don't play as a team.

I saw the coach play in the games. He blew it all. No. No coach would have done a better job. Rich, lazy athletes will do what they want.
