I'm a guitar player in a bluegrass band, and banjo jokes are a staple of the bluegrass world. Sometimes I feel sorry for the banjo player. He's not able to defend himself because (after all) he's only - um - er - a banjo player.

A doctor, architect and a mandolin player were all having a friendly and slightly drunken argument over which of their activities was the oldest and therefore the most noble.
The doctor said, "Now wait. God created Adam, put Adam to sleep, removed a rib and created Eve from that rib. I say that this was an act of medicine, so being a doctor is the most noble activity."
The architect said, "No, even before Adam and Eve, God saw that chaos existed and created the Earth and heavens out of chaos. That was an act of architecture, so the architect is the most noble."
The doctor and architect turned to face the mandolin player, who was busy tuning his instrument. Together they said, "Well?"
And the mandolin player said, "And who do you think created the chaos?"
Okay, that's more of a mandolin player joke. How about the mandolin player referring to guitars as "sport utility mandolins"? After you tease him about his mandolin, he can respond, "Well at least I'm not playing one of those sport utility mandolins" (pointing at your guitar). He can then talk about how his mandolin is more efficient, responds more quickly and gets better musical mileage.
