Can anyone tell me the TRUE laws regarding rest periods at work in the UK.
We have been told at work that we are no longer allowed tea breaks.
The full time workers work 9am to 5pm and have a half an hour unpaid lunch break.
I work part time (11am - 4pm) with no break for lunch.
The full time workers have been told if they want a break they have to either come in earlier or stay later and the break will still be unpaid.

I need to find out the true law regarding this as soon as possible with a source to back it up.

If you're an adult worker (ie over 18), you'll normally have the right to a 20 minute rest break if you're expected to work for more than six hours at a stretch.

So by working 11-4 the law states that your employer is under no legal obligation to allow you a break.

Its 15 mins for every 6 hours work, if you are working 8 hours or more, they have to give you a 1/2 hour break too.

I would say that's way wrong After 4hrs you should be allowed a 15 Min to half an hour break and the full timers i would of thought they would get 1 hour lunch & two fifteen minute breaks i know you don't get paid for them but its needed...

it depends on what is stated on your contract as terms and conditions, i am an employer and my contracts state an entitled work break of 15 minutes for every for hours, it also depends on your age. to get up to date information visit the acas website, they also have a freephone line, i have found them very helpful in the past.
