genetics, drugs, alcohol, smoking and sometimes it just happens... in what way is the child "abnormal?"

No one wants to conceive abnormal child willingly ......But it happens out 1. Either genetic disorder - or some biological reason or 2. physical damage - due to improper care.

Since nobody can define what a normal child is, and all children are different, and nobody can control at the time of conception if a child is going to be abnormal, what is it you are really asking?

One of the main causes is if both parents are carriers for certain abnormalities

there could be many causes depending on the abnormality. Alcohol consumption can be one, drug use, genetics disorder, inherited traits, the list goes on and on

Genetic, environmental, drug abuse just to name a few. And with genetics things can be hiding for years and years and years before showing up in the family.

abnormal can have a very wide definition. drugs, genetics, existing conditions of parents etc etc etc
