Gexa offered %15 cheaper rates than a lot of providers here.
I am in Houston and they ARE cheaper. it's still $$$ but they all are, but if you join thru your continentalonepass account, you get 2 miles for each dollar you spend each month on your bill, PLUS they give you 3000 miles.
Those were the reasons I switched.
my bills were noticably smaller.... $160 - $120

I can tell you which one is NOT the cheapest... TXU!!! THey are HORRIBLE.

My TXU bill went from 12.52 cents per kWh to 15.86 cents in TWELVE MONTHS. And that's after all the raises the prior year. My old house seems to eat energy, and TXU's price tiers were killing me.

I just switched to Spark Energy. On the websites where I researched, it seemed to be one of the lowest. THe energy charge is 12.9 cents no matter what. A flat rate; no tier pricing. Of course, that doesn't include their $5 montly fee and taxes, which makes the total clost closer 13.14 cents. Still, that's significantly cheaper than TXU's energy rate. My first bill, for MORE usage, was $80 cheaper. Wowsa!

However, this rate is based on automatic billing and internet billing. That's how they keep their costs down.

I don't care. I just wished I had switched earlier. I would have save at least $400-500 this year if I had.

I had HL&P when I lived there a few years ago and their customer service department stinks. They charged me over $500 bucks a month for a regular 3 bedroom home and I couldn't find anyone to figure out what the heck the problem was and they refused to help in any way. I don't know who else you can get it from since I no longer live there, but I would definately stay away from them.
