I listen to smooth jazz and i enjoy the solos and everything, I also listen to music with spanish guitar as its main sound, But other people almost always want to hear singing. I don't play instruments now but i used to play piano/keyboard, and i still like drumming with my hands or trying out the guitar taht i have at home. Makes me think that people who don't play instruments or don't value the musician's work, prefer music with vocals. What do you say?

I personally can't play any thing but i love to listen to some music without any vocals because you get the whole sound and not just some guy singing with some mediocre instruments in the background

People who don't play an instrument probably don't hear the music as much as people who do. I play the piano and I can hear the piano more than any other instrument, and can tell if the bass or treble is being played more. Because I've spent time learning and so I know the different sounds.

I play guitar and write music, but I still prefer vocals in my music. I guess it's just personal taste. But I do suspect people who play an instrument, like to hear music with good musicians and real instruments.

I also play an instrument, and prefer music with vocals most of the time. If I'm doing something where I need to concentrate, I'll listen to Michael Hedges or something soothing and instrumental.

I think that might be the case more for non-pop or non-Top40 type music.

Jass & Instrumental type music doesn't make a lot of the mainstream pop radio; therefore, those who enjoy that music have to seek it out in a different media suck as CDs or Live shows.

Pop music and/or Top 40 radio music tends to be Vocal based music in the last 40 years.

So your question is a good one.

I don't play an instrument but I really like listening to music without vocals. I have a lot of classical music and soundtracks. I like both music with vocals and music without vocals equally.

I love listening to a variety of classical music. Most of it has no vocals. I also listen to a jazz, big band and new age instrumentals. I even have sitar, Native American and Chinese instrumentals in my collection.

I would have problems picking out 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' on a piano with one finger.

When I listen to music I only hear the melody, I haven't been able to learn the words of any song in totality and I don't play any instruments. And that is that!

Yes.
I can't play an instrument and I prefer my music to have vocals.

Maybe this is why they threw me out of the Barbican Centre in London last week.

I was singing along with the Royal Philharmonic when they were playing Beethoven's 5th.
