Don't you ask questions to learn things? If so why are people so cruel sometimes in their answering?

That is an excellent question. I think some people get a feeling of power when they make people feel bad. I would guess that more people would engage in this kind of behavior when they are able to hide behind the anonymity of the Internet. It is unfortunate, because I am sure that some of the best questions (Those that eventually lead to the most insightful answers) are never asked because of the fear of ridicule.

One interesting correlation that I have noticed is that these same people are the ones that have the hardest time admitting when they have made a mistake.

My suggestion is to keep asking questions and just try to ignore the jerks.

Clarification: I also think that all ideas should be open to criticism. Sometimes satire is the best form of criticism. As long as the criticism is directed at the idea and not at the person. Also, If a question is a loaded question, or is more of a personal statement of belief worded in the form of a question, then that kind of question should be attacked with rigor, and without regard for the feelings of the individual who as asked it. To badly paraphrase Karl Popper: We should be content to let our theories die in our stead.

Don't let anyone make you feel stupid. It's just a cowardly way of power tripping. This site is supposed to be a place where you can get your question answered. The stupid ones are those who come on with rude remarks to get 2 pts. So , just ignore them and ask away. Asking questions is a sign of intelligence. Don't let them bother you. They are nothing. Good Luck

most honest and sincere questions don't get rude replies. if people can see the asker is really trying to learn something they will generally reply with helpful answers. granted there are some real dumbarses both asking and answering questions but don't worry about them. if you receive all offensive answers to any of your questions you might want to reevaluate the quality of that question. otherwise, disregard the rude ones and move on.
