rainwater contains pollutants, soil, plant parts,
insect parts, bacteria, algae, and sometimes radioactive
materials that the rain/snow has washed out of the air.
If filtered with one of the filtering systems that you
can buy in stores nowadays, and then boiled, you could
probably drink the water safely.

Rain water is no cleaner than the air it falls through.

With the "Clean" Air Act putting more pollutants in the air, I would have to say the water isn't very clean. Its probably not as bad as the water flowing by a factory, but I still wouldn't drink lots of it myself.

No... it is clean until it reached the inner atmosphere where it picks up impurities. Many of which are harmful to ingest.

There are over 2000 impurities found in ground water world wide... In the US they are required by law (EPA) to treat for 92 of them. Thats the really scarey issue. Because rainwater also becomes part of our ground water supply.

unless you get acid rain, i would say its clean enough to drink, especially in an emergency situation. i had rain water before, no problems. there shouldn't be bacteria in it, but if there's smog in the ske, it might affect the rain.
