I've always enjoyed Christopher Hitchens whenever I'm able to catch him on TV. Changing your mind or changing your position on an issue does not constitute "selling out" in my estimation. On the contrary, it demonstrates honest reflection and integrity.
Plus, I suppose you can be a "left wing activist", as you refer to him, and still support military action in Iraq. I frankly do not know his position on Iraq, but it sounds like he's a non-partisan supporter of the war on terror. WHO ISN"T?
To answer your question, NO, I don't think that he's sold out.

Everyone is for sale. Even a hot air balloon that was at one time exposing the merits of a proletariat revolution. Hitchens like most, and occasionally me to, is self serving or in layman terms - an entertainer.

I am the Fringe and I would like a paycheck like the Hitch!

He is a pompous jackass that I would love to beat with a baseball bat. I couldn't care if he was left or right! Louisville Shampoo for him.

So because you decide that you have grown intelectually and hold different opinions than you once did, that's "selling out"

I don't think so.
