Dip the cloth is some form of acid, I,m sure sulphuric will do the trick, it dissolves the metal thus giving you a rust free free cloth, not sure whether the cloth will survive though. let me know! PS never handle dangerous substances without expert assistance.

Our carpet cleaning man came around with a special cyanide acid compound that really did remove rust stains. I don't think it's available to consumers, nor safe for them to use. But if you Google you do get a number of hits explaiing the procedure, and some (perhaps less satisfactory) non-cyanide alternatives.
Here's one hit: www.smokeriders.com/Tech/html/removal.html

a washing machine maybe, send it through three times if it bothers you.
Why does rust on a cloth bother you anyway? If it was a shirt I could see your point.
