it was pretty contemporary like the mid 90's. i think it was on fox. he plays time of your life by green day on the guitar and tries to pass it off like he wrote the song himself.

I know there's a MOVIE like that....it's called 'Big' with Tom Hanks in it.
There's also that show 'The Wonder Years' where a guy is flashbacking his life as he narrates it.

I sort of remember the show. there was also one like it on i think abc, where he kept trying to fix past mistakes in his life. If i remember correctly in one episode he and his friends get into a fight with people in line to see the first showing of Empire Strikes BAck, and he ends up screaming the ending.
