Sadly in my time, I have never come across a work at home program that isn't a scam.
Try looking into Mystery Shopping which pays around £10 a job. You do have to leave the home but you can leave when you state! Some offer free food at fast food places, restataurants and clubs! Emysteryshopper.com is all done from your computer. You can't make a living from them but they certainly help with extra money.
Try becoming an at home Language Interpreter (if you speak another language that is!)
Try selling stuff on eBay - I know, easier said than done!

I haven't tried it because they are. Most of them are some type of pyramid so you will have guys jump on this and tell you how great it is.
If you want to do something at home to make extra money, there are legitimate companies that sell products, usually in an in home party setting, that are fine. You want it to be a company you have heard of and one that has a good Better Business Bureau file (http://bbb.com) Examples: Avon, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef
As soon as you see that it is as important that you get more people involved than it is to sell something real, you can rest assured it is a scam. All they are doing is making money off each other, and you go in at the bottom. Almost no one gets very high up.

Work at home is great if you actually plan to WORK! I have worked from home my whole life:
1) Sell magazines
2) Set appointments for roofing companies or real estate offices
3) Graphic Design & Website work
4) Home daycare
5) Make crafts to sell at local venues or on e-bay.
6) grow bedding plants and houseplants to sell
I always manage to make ends meet using these ideas.
The key to any of these is that you are actually working not just waiting for someone to give you money. Avoid the scams and find a job that you like and fit it to your scehdule.
If you feel you must spend money to get into business then look into a franchise. Franchising offers you the chance to buy an all already successful business with a well known name.
Top 10 Franchises:
1. Jani-King
2. Jan-Pro Franchising Int'l. Inc.
3. ServiceMaster Clean
4. Jazzercise Inc.
5. Chem-Dry Carpet, Drapery & Upholstery Cleaning
6. CleanNet USA Inc.
7. Snap-on Tools
8. Servpro Industries Inc.
9. WSI Internet
10. Matco Tools
