If I went back in time and killed my mum before I was born, thereby preventing myself from being born and killing my mum would I exist?

What you are referring to is a theory known as the time paradox, which states that returning back in time and changing an event will therefore change all events related to that event in the future. However, I think differently. If you were to kill your parents before you were born, they (and you) would simply be replaced by others, and time would fill the gaps up with other people. So, no, I don't think you would exist.

The ultimate and insoluble time-paradox question. Watch the whole of Star Trek (the original, TNG, Voyager, Enterprise and if you really MUST, Deep Space Nine)
Then work your way through the whole of Stargate, the whole of BOTH versions of Battlestar Galactica and when you're really confused:
watch the 60's British TV series "The Prisoner". Then you will understand that some questions simply cannot be answered.

Ever watch the movie "The Butterfly Effect"? Do it, because it is based on time travel theory's and the old, "If a butter fly flaps it's wings in the Forrest, it could create a hurricane 1/2 way around the world".

Ahh the paradoxes. If you went back in time & killed your mom you wouldn't exist. But if you didn't exist how did you go back in the first place?

The moment that you killed her, you would still be alive, but if you were to slowly travel forward in time, you would die at the moment in time when your mom was supposed to give birth to you.
Therefore, if you tried to go back to the present after you killed her you would die on the way back to the present.

the answer is no, time theories abound...but if you kill your mom....so in essence you never will exist again... but your mom is already dead so you cant go back too change that
